Corey Hutchins

Corey Hutchins is the owner of Intrain Assessor and a Heavy Vehicle Trainer and Assessor at Intrain Assessor who is responsible for training and assessing students in all heavy vehicle licence classes and training and assessing students for High Risk Work Licences. Corey has worked as a trainer and assessor since 2020, prior to that, Corey worked in the Heavy Vehicle Industry as a professional interstate driver.

Your Instructor

Daniel Maroney

Daniel Maroney is a Heavy Vehicle Trainer and Assessor and High-Risk Work Trainer. Daniel has a vast amount of knowledge from his previous job working for the Australian Defence Force, which he has applied to the training sector. Outside of work, Daniel enjoys riding his Harley, travelling with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Daniel holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRW licence to operate this plant.

Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground, but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Always arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time

  • Be at least 18 years of age; with approved photo ID; please refer to Armstrong’s Terms & Conditions for approved ID types.
  • All training and assessment is conducted in English and a practical level of English language comprehension, literacy, and numeracy is required. Students whose first language is not English must contact Intrain Assessor before booking a course to better assess their suitability to undertake this course. Failure to do this may result in any course fees paid being forfeited.
  • Wear appropriate clothing, including work boots, preferably steel capped.
  • Please Note: All students undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a registered training organisation will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) in order to receive a nationally-recognised certificate or statement of attainment.
  • Go to https://www.usi.gov.au/ to obtain a USI number or authenticated transcript.

All training will be delivered and assessed between 7.00am and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday.

2 Days training then 1 day Assessment (Using Regulator Mandated Assessment Tools)

Required Knowledge Under WHS Worksafe High Risk Work Legislation for the Successful Completion of this Unit

  • Methodology of determining the weight of a load
  • Commonwealth, state or territory OH&S legislation, standards relevant to the safe operation for the forklift trucks
  • Understanding of forklift characteristics and capabilities (including use of load data plates)
  • Understanding of the hierarchy of hazard identification and control
  • Organisational and workplace standards, requirements, policies and procedures for conducting operations for the forklift class
  • Procedures for the recording, reporting and maintenance of workplace records and information
  • Forklift truck operations and safe operating techniques
  • Typical routine problems encountered in the operation of the forklift and equipment and adjustments required for correction

  • Acts and Regulations which affect how you work
  • Hazard identification and control measures
  • Inspection of work area to determine appropriate path of movement
  • Checking forklift for any damage or defects and defect and damage reporting
  • Location and identification of controls
  • Pre-start and post-start operational checks
  • Starting forklift as per procedures
  • Operation of forklift at safe speeds

  • Moving and placing of loads ensuring stability and avoidance of hazards

Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck. Successful participants will also receive a Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) for NSW or a Notice of Assessment (NOA) for Victoria which is valid for 60 days.
